COURIER Study Area
The Study Area is the trunk road network adjacent to and crossing the border between England and Wales. Responsibility for the operation of the trunk road and motorway networks lies with the HA and the NAW Transport Directorate respectively.
Although the border is transversed in many places, the emphasis of COURIER is to deal with the crossings where real alternative diversion routes exist. Using a variety of media appropriate action(s) could be taken by network managers to influence the movement of vehicles. COURIER will identify what additional telematics infrastructure to that existing is needed, and what level of co-operative data exchange is needed between the Welsh and English traffic control centres.
