The M4 Corridor

The M4 corridor forms the main route from England into South Wales. The two motorway River Severn crossings on the M4 and M48 are pinch points on the corridor. The M4/M5/A40 route forms an alternative route between South Wales and England, particularly suitable for access to/from the Midlands . On the Welsh side the Newport based M4C control centre and the Gwent Police have control of the signalling and message signs. On the English side the Avon and Somerset Constabulary control room at Portishead has control.
